About Tools with a Mission

Tools with a Mission was established in 1984 by Jack Norwood, John Bennett, and the Baptist Men’s Movement, who had the vision to empower people living in poverty by providing them with the tools and training to shape their own futures. Tools with a Mission collects tools from around the UK, refurbishes them, packs them into trade kits, and sends them to organisations in Africa. They currently send tools to four countries in Africa: Zambia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and DR Congo. They support around 500 NGOs every year, each supporting between 20-150 ultra-poor people through livelihood-creating training courses. Their mission is to empower vulnerable members of developing communities, maintain their dignity by encouraging a mindset of independence, not reliance, and show them that they have the ability to put their poverty in the past for good.
