What we do
The unit in Penarth is the collecting point for the whole of South and West Wales, south of a line running though Builth Wells in Mid-Wales. There are currently half a dozen collectors within that area, mostly south of the M4 corridor. We have a number of people who kindly act as local drop-off points for the collectors to collect from, thus providing a slightly wider coverage. We concentrate on sorting, cleaning and refurbishing/repairing tools, rather than on creating kits. The refurbished tools are collected on a 6-weekly rota from the Coventry refurbishment centre and either used in their kit-making or forwarded to Ipswich. On average, we send 8 van loads a year at about a tonne a time.
Please contact them before dropping off tools as due to social distancing requirements new procedures have had to be put in place.
Looking to the future
Due to a major restructure and expansion programme within the charity, our Penarth Centre will be closing at the end of the year. However, we hope a work will continue to collect tools from South Wales and will update this page as plans become clearer.
